Interlayer Craquelure causes the top layer of acrylic paint to crack. Apply it to a primed surface (e.g., with a different shade of acrylic paint), making sure to apply two coats a few minutes apart. Apply a different color of paint to the still-damp surface, which will crack. It is best to vary the direction of your brushstrokes, applying the crackle medium (e.g., horizontally) and the topcoat (vertically).
