This is a special liquid medium that gives watercolors—whose pigments typically create smooth surfaces—an irregular speckled or grainy appearance. Adding the granulation medium to colors with pigments that already granulate will further enhance this effect. For a more pronounced effect, it is best to use the liquid medium instead of water and paint on rough-textured paper. A more subtle effect can be achieved on hot-pressed paper with a satin finish. It is recommended to paint horizontally.
