Shellac is a type of natural resin obtained from the shells of insects that live on trees known as lac trees in India and Thailand. Depending on the type of tree, shellac ranges in color from yellow to reddish-brown. It is a semi-finished product from which, after purification and bleaching, orange and colorless shellac are produced. It comes in the form of a membrane that is cut into smaller pieces. Natural shellac, despite the widespread use of synthetic resins, remains irreplaceable in many fields. When dissolved, it serves as an excellent insulator or protective varnish. The most popular types are lemon, orange, ruby, and bleached. All these types are available in 100-gram and 1-kilogram packages.
